Printers and Printing Devices

If you need to print from your palmtop, there are a number of possibilities. First, if you are using a fax program on your palmtop, you may consider faxing your document to a fax machine nearby. Other than that, we can offer several other solutions for your printing needs.

Parallel Printer Cable

Parallel Printer CableThis cable is used to print directly from the HP palmtop to a parallel printer. It has a connector for the serial port of the palmtop on one end, and a standard Centronics connector that fits directly into the parallel port of a printer on the other end. The serial/parallel interface is contained in the housing of the connector, and it requires no batteries and no external power supply.

The parallel cables works with all printer models which supply +5V at pin 35 of the Centronics connector. It does not work with CGI printers which require a Windows operating system.

Parallel Printer Adapter

This adapter works pretty much like the Parallel Printer Cable, except that the adapter does not come with an attached cable. Instead, the normal serial cable which is used for data communications between the palmtop and desktop is used to connect the palmtop and the adapter.

The adapter has a 9-pin connector for the serial cable on one end, and a standard Centronics connector that fits directly into the parallel port of a printer on the other end. The serial/parallel interface is contained in the housing of the connector, and it requires no batteries and no external power supply. The parallel printer adapter works with almost all printer models.

Operating instructions for Windows CE 2.0: Set the handheld port for Serial@57600. Some printers require special drivers: If your printer emulates a HP LaserJet III or higher, no driver is required, otherwise BPrint version 2.0 or higher is required for use with Windows CE 2.0. Use of BPrint version 1.6 or lower is not recommended.

TransPC Parallel Card

The TransPC card is a PCMCIA card with a full-featured parallel port. It allows parallel devices like printers, ZIP drives and others to be connected to the palmtop.

The card comes complete with driver software, parallel cable and user's manual.

LitePrint Infrared Printer Adapter

This device replaces the printer cable for any IrDA 1.0-compliant device, like the HP Palmtops, HP OmniBooks and many other notebook computers. The LitePrint adapter can be connected to any parallel port printer, and also supports pass-through printing from the desktop PC so that it actually acts like an intelligent printer switch, accepting data from both the desktop (through the printer cable), and from the palmtop or any other IrDA compliant device (like many notebooks, for example).

The LitePrint adapter has not yet been tested with the HP OmniGo 100 and the Windows CE palmtop PCs.

The package contains the LitePrint adapter, a parallel cable, an AC adapter (220V only), and IrDA drivers for Windows 95, Windows 3.11 and the HP 100/200/700LX palmtops.
