TechRAM Memory Upgrades
The TechRAM memory upgrade is a small circuit board with either 4MB, 8MB, 32MB, 64MB or 96MB of
memory. On almost all HP 200LX 2 MB palmtops, the second megabyte is sitting on a
daughterboard, so the 4MB upgrade can be installed quite easily by opening the
palmtop, removing the daughterboard and installing the TechRAM 4MB board, which results in a total of 5MB internal RAM
(the C: drive has 4.3 MB then).
The HP 200LX 1M does not have the daughterboard, and most of them do not even have the connector to install the
board, so installing the TechRAM upgrade requires a SMD socket to be soldered on the circuit
board. The total RAM of an upgraded machine will be 5 MB.
Some newer HP 200LX 2MB have all memory on the mainboard and therefore do not have a daughterboard nor the
connector. Installing the TechRAM upgrade requires a SMD socket to be soldered on the circuit
board. The total RAM of such a machine will be 6 Mbyte.
The HP 200LX 4MB has 2MB of memory on the mainboard plus 2MB on a
daughterboard, so the 4MB upgrade is installed by removing the 2MB board and replacing it with the TechRAM 4MB
board, resulting in a total memory of 6MB.
The TechRAM 4MB upgrade is available as “do-it-yourself” kit which includes the 4MB memory
board, detailed instructions, an EMM driver and a Torx T6 screwdriver for opening the palmtop
case. Optionally we offer installation service to install the upgrade in your
palmtop.
In addition to the above, installation of the TechRAM 8MB, 32MB, 64MB and 96MB upgrades is much more difficult and, depending on the layout of your
mainboard, requires removal of the original memory chips from the mainboard and soldering additional wires to CPU
pins. Therefore, the 8MB, 32MB, 64MB and 96MB upgrades are only available together with installation by us. The total memory of the upgraded palmtop will
be:
